WHY ARE WE SUPPORTING MADRA?
MADRA is dedicated to rescuing and finding new homes for unwanted, neglected, abused and abandoned dogs. They focus on taking in dogs from the local authority pounds but they also provide a rehoming service for people who need to re-home their dogs for a variety of reasons like homelessness, ill health or death, moving abroad and so on. MADRA provides many other related services to the public such as educational talks in schools and they also work with other charities to provide emergency canine accommodation for the dogs of people who find themselves homeless or in domestic abuse shelters.

MEET THE DOGS
SPARROW
Sparrow was rescued from a backyard breeder in 2017, knowing nothing of life outside a shed. MADRA dropped him to his new human AJ the next day, matted and petrified of human touch, trying to make himself as small as could be. His coat had to be shaved off. After months of building up his confidence, Sparrow is now a sweet-natured, funny, football headed fluffy boy! He's come on leaps and bounds; you'd never know by looking at him the horrors he's had to live through. He loves everyone he meets and will do just about anything for food!
SAM
Sam came to MADRA in 2016 with the rest of his family, after being removed from a hoarding situation. These dogs were completely unsocialised and couldn't be handled. Sam was particularly fearful and shut down. After several months, with the help of positive reinforcement training methods, Sam began to trust one trainer Carrie who subsequently fostered him to help address his many fears. She fell in love and adopted him! Now a much happier, braver boy who loves trick training and playing with his dog friends. He also loves his role as an ambassador for MADRA!
SOPHIA
Sophia is a nine-year-old Pomeranian who went to MADRA in 2020. She was clearly in a lot of pain and she couldn't walk. After a full veterinary health check, it was revealed that she had collapsed discs in her back. She went into permanent foster care with one of their team. She’ll need ongoing physiotherapy and pain relief to give her the best quality of life. She still has ongoing mobility issues but she's not in pain. She is now a happy girl, who loves being fussed over! She can't go for walks so she does lots of canine enrichment instead which she loves.
LENTIL
Lentil was rescued by the dog warden from a locked trailer. She was in really poor condition but she quickly blossomed at MADRA. She became an affectionate, fun little dog and everyone adores her! One of the shelter team quickly fell for her charms and adopted her and now Lentil lives with her human Gala and two other dogs Bessie and Belle. She loves trips in the campervan and getting into mischief!
BLUE
Blue's mom Bess came to MADRA heavily pregnant in 2017. Fortunately, they were able to get her into a caring foster home where she could give birth in a quiet, safe environment. Blue was one of her eight puppies. He was adopted by Dani and Ryan and he happily lives with them and their two other dogs Diesel and Blue. Blue is extremely clever and he loved posing for his photoshoot with EZ Living.

Every year MADRA takes in hundreds of dogs and puppies, each one coming with their own sad story but each one leaving to begin a new, happier story. They'll be microchipped, vaccinated, health-checked and neutered for their adopters and MADRA will always be on hand for support and advice for the whole of their lives. WHAT WILL YOUR DONATION DO FOR MADRA?
Most of the dogs in MADRA’s shelter right now need to be rehabilitated in some way before they're ready to be rehomed. Covid-19 brought with it many changes for everyone but, for MADRA, it has been the completely unexpected reduction in the numbers of dogs coming to them from the pounds. With the demand for dogs at an all-time high since the first lockdown, most people who could no longer keep their dog have been able to find friends or relations who will happily step up and offer their buddy a home. That is, if the dog is a happy, healthy, easy-going family pet, of course.......
Nowadays, the dogs that MADRA collects from the pound are the more challenging cases. These are not ‘bad’ dogs and there is nothing ‘wrong’ with these gentle souls. They still need help but they simply may not fit the criteria for a typical family pet. They need time and space to decompress before they can learn how to adjust to life in a home. Many will need special training on a one-to-one basis to prepare them for their new life. And many have also come with serious medical issues that need surgery and intensive post-op care before they are ready for adoption. All of this means more time in the care of MADRA before they can be rehomed and your donation will go directly towards this care.
