Decorating your home for Christmas can seem like a huge task especially when you consider that it’s all for just a few days of celebrating. But, what if it wasn’t? What if the decorations you invested in could be used year-round as part of your regular home decor? Well, that’s the dream, isn’t it? Luckily, dreams can become a reality when you follow our advice. In this blog, we will outline a number of Christmas decorations that can lend themselves to many other seasons. So, what are you waiting for? Deck your halls for the entire year using EZ Living Furniture’s easy-to-implement suggestions!
String Lights
String lights aren’t just for Christmas. When used in the right way, they can light up your home without looking overly festive or childish. They can be hung from a bed frame, dangled from a shelf, dotted along a mirror, displayed above a mantelpiece, the list goes on and on. The only way this tip works though is if you purchase string lights in a clear colour. Oftentimes, you won’t find string lights in a bright, blue light, but you will find them with a warming orange glow, which is perfect because you want your lights to cosy up the space all year long. Avoid colours that are associated with Christmas, for instance, red, green, and even multi-coloured.
Candles & Candle Holders
Festive scents that include cinnamon should be avoided at all costs. When choosing candles or diffusers, stick to neutral fragrances, this way you can continue to display and light them at various times throughout the year. Look for Clean Cotton or Fresh Linen aromas or something similar to these scent names. For candle holders, it’s best to choose silver or clear glass ones that don’t have any patterns, yes, even snowflakes. We know it’s tempting to pick red or green reindeer-adorned versions too, but if you want to continue to keep your candle holder on display all year long, these monochromatic colours are the best choices for you and your home. Pillar candle holders are elevated from the base and are another incredibly elegant option. When purchased in black or neutral colours, they can easily lend themselves to a variety of seasons.
Christmas Baubles & Decorations
Again, we are sticking to a monochromatic colour scheme for ornaments and decorations. Think grey, blue, silver, white etc. Baubles might seem like a strange decoration to continue to display after Christmas, but they can actually add a lot of value to a space. When removed from the Christmas tree, baubles make a great filler for clear vases, decorative bowls, and even lanterns. This is a simple and cost-effective way to add texture and colour to your room’s scheme. Metal decorations or silver ornaments can be just as effective, just make sure to choose figurines and elements that aren’t specific to Christmas.
Picks
Picks, also known as sprays, are typically used to fill annoying gaps in Christmas trees. This isn’t all they are used for though, they can be used in a table display, wreath, or garland, and can even act as a tree topper. Still, if you don’t choose one that isn’t too sparkly or snowy, then you can choose to display yours all year round in other ways. Foliage is something that features regularly in home decor schemes and without it, the look you have carefully curated can end up falling flat. Instead of using typical dried branches to enhance a vase, you could use your pick(s) instead. Again, we suggest sticking with non-sparkly versions or eucalyptus sprays to display all year long.
Lanterns
The best thing about lanterns is that they can be easily incorporated into everyday decor. Instead of choosing seasonal colours like gold, red, or green, we suggest picking silver, grey, or black. Wooden styles can also end up looking like they are part of a Christmas woodland theme, which is why we also recommend avoiding this.
Basic Wreath
Choose a plain wreath instead of one that is adorned with pine cones or red berries. This will allow you to decorate your wreath in a way that suits your current Christmas theme year after year. All you need to do is add a few baubles and sprays to it. Better still, this versatile piece can be displayed on your front door all year round. If you wish to add a little something extra to your plain green wreath, you could always add sprigs of lavender or flowers, either artificial or plucked straight from your garden. Of course, if you choose the latter, you will need to swap these out regularly with fresh alternatives.
Light-Up Trees
Now we know this might sound strange, but we promise it’s not. We would never suggest displaying a traditional-style Christmas tree all year long, mainly because the neighbours will think that you’ve lost your mind, but also because it will look incredibly odd. We do, however, advise you to invest in an LED tree that will continue to bring that cosy vibe into your home all year long. The Willow Tree with copper wire lights pictured above is a great example, it’s just “Christmasy” enough for the holiday season, but not extremely seasonal so it can be easily displayed all year round without getting the wrong sort of attention.
So, now that you know the decorations that can lend themselves to a variety of seasons, you can make smarter choices when shopping for your Christmas decor.
