Welcome back to another colour decorating blog. In 2021, we introduced you to our very first decorate with colour blog, which saw us focusing on the colour yellow. We looked at various shades and together we discovered what each one can bring to your home. Colour psychology has allowed us to get a better understanding of what each colour symbolises. This has helped many home interior enthusiasts embrace mood-benefitting colours in their homes and use them to their advantage.

Green

Whether it’s marine green, forest green, olive green, or sage, this nature-inspired colour is everywhere in interiors right now. Its links to the outdoors as well as its calming qualities could explain its popularity for creating a ‘zen’ home. An ode to the natural world, green can affect people in a variety of ways. It has the ability to relax, revitalise and reassure those in its presence. A chalky, forest green can be seen on the walls next to our Conan Sofa above, together they create the perfect living room decor for 2022.

Blue

A well-known and prestigious paint brand has named this colour the colour of the year for 2022, so you just know it’s something special. The shade in question is an uplifting light blue similar to that found on the kitchen walls and Riley Bar Stool above. Reminiscent of a clear blue sky, it is filled with promise, optimism and calm. If you are in need of an invigorating and refreshing colour to help you to feel optimistic throughout the year, then look no further. This light blue is also known to boost concentration, which is why it should also be considered as a wall colour for a home office.

Pink

Pink is set to be big for 2022. Particularly shades of muted pink that lend a sophisticated approach to interiors. This pink is earthier than what we have seen up until now. Romantic hues of blush and raspberry now contain matt pigments which can add a texture to the walls and an overall elegant finish. Used on furniture, this dusky pink tone will enhance feelings of compassion and love in those who surround it. Its playfulness means that this colour is one of the most versatile on this list. It can be paired with contrasting shades of pink and red such as terracotta or rust, which also happen to be popular colours for this year. For inspiration, take a look at how our interior designers created the ultimate dining room decor with multiple shades of pink and our popular Yo Dining Chair.

Yellow

Joyful shades that promote optimism continue to dominate for 2022. Next, we have yellow. Now, it may be the first colour you think of when choosing to redecorate for the New Year, but just hear us out. The shade that is set to be most popular this season is a yellow similar to the wall colour next to our Alfredo Sofa above. It could be described as a muted version of the tone pictured above or a “lemon yellow”. Lemon yellow promotes boldness, alertness and joy, which is why it is important not to overuse it, especially in the bedroom, or you may have trouble sleeping.

Neutral

Neutral tones such as Ivory, beige, and cream are back, but with a difference. Instead of the yellow accent once seen in older versions of this paint colour, we are now focusing on those that include a milky or almond undertone. The need to create a cosy and comforting atmosphere is more important than ever this year and this paired-back colour is perfect for this. On furniture, it can create the ideal contrast with those darker painted walls. Painted on the walls, this colour can almost certainly bring an understated allure to a living room, dining room, kitchen, or even bedroom. Not only this but this colour pairs well with modern, contemporary furnishings and can evoke feelings of energy and strength in those surrounding it.
