It’s hard to believe that 2022 is coming to an end. It only feels like yesterday when we were ringing in the New Year with a toast or two and now it’s all over. When we celebrate the start of a new year, we often reminisce about the year gone by, you could say that this is EZ Living Furniture doing just that! We are taking a look back on all of the furniture trends from 2022 and the most popular colours and materials that are associated with it. What we really want to know, and we know our readers do too, is if some, or any of these trends from the past year are still relevant in the near future. Why? Well some of us may have decorated our homes in keeping with the current trends and will need to know how to adapt our homes to suit 2023. So, what trends from 2022 are here to stay and what ones are gone for good? Keep reading below to find out, it may just surprise you.

Gone For Good:

Unfortunately, there are some trends that are just that - trends. They will usually only stay fashionable for so long until something new ultimately pushes it out of view. One such trend from 2022 that we can expect to say goodbye to in 2023 is bold colours.

Gone For Good - Bold Colours

We are firmly stepping away from forest greens, deep teals, and vibrant rust colours. Instead, the focus lies permanently on warmer, softer neutral tones such as off-whites, creams, terracotta, tan, cocoa-browns, etc.

Gone For Good - White Walls

White walls. Need we say more? It seems that whatever home you stepped foot into, they had white walls paired with vibrant, contrasting furniture. In the kitchen, white walls were paired with dark blue cabinets, in the bedroom white walls would form the backdrop for a bright yellow bed frame, I could go on, but I feel like you get the picture. Now, the shades listed above are being used on the walls and then paired with complementary lighter tones using furniture. White was originally used to create a calming effect in certain areas whereas often the result would be almost a clinical-feeling home. These softer tan shades can easily transport us away to a calmer, sunny holiday destination without feeling like we are in a local GP or dentist's office.

Gone For Good - Heavy Textiles

Now, we’ll be honest, we’re a little bit disappointed about this one. We love heavy textiles here, they are family-friendly, durable, and most importantly - stunning. Velvet and leather especially are set to take a back seat in the New Year. Instead, we are seeing plain upholstered fabrics in lighter shades. We’re not sure we’ll be able to stick to this particular trend though, just look at the beautiful Grace Sofa above, how could you possibly say no to that?

Gone For Good - Geometric Patterns

You couldn’t step foot into a home goods store in the last year without seeing a geometric pattern somewhere. From wall art to rugs, this series of shapes seemed to be everywhere we turned. Even dinnerware didn’t escape the geometric trend. Still, it created a statement and an interesting one at that, but unfortunately, this is another fashionable design from 2022 that we won’t be seeing much of in the New Year.

Here to Stay:

If you’re one of those people who are always ahead of the curve, you’ll probably already know that you can start to see new fads creeping in towards the end of the previous year. The second half of 2022 started to introduce us to natural materials, organic shapes and textures, and soft, warm colours and it looks like they are here to stay in 2023. Keep reading below to find out which trends, in particular, we are keeping in our homes for the New Year.

Here To Stay - Lighter-Shade Woods

Lighter woods such as oak, acacia wood, pine etc. are all staying put in our homes for 2023. We are turning to those in particular that include a distinctive grain and naturally warm yet light hue. Our furniture ranges such as Malta, Renvyle, San Francisco, or Lucca would be the perfect choice for a dining room or living room. These wooden elements can also be introduced in smaller amounts using home accessories. You can also expect to see sprinklings of rattan increase in 2023. Rattan is often paired with other lighter woods for a bit of texture and of course, we have already introduced this to our customers with our Sacramento bedroom collection and Barrali living range.

Here To Stay - Organic Shapes & Textures

If you haven’t already guessed, 2023 is all about embracing nature, but this doesn’t mean having to fill your home with copious amounts of plants. It does, however, mean concentrating on organic shapes in stone and wood. Plant pots and vases with curving and heavy textures are overshadowing the structured shapes that came from the geometric design phase. The Timerga brown pot above is just what your living room or hallway is missing, everything about it screams “2023”. The warm brown tone mixed with the organic shape and texture is most of the home trends of the New Year combined into one inexpensive home accessory.

Here To Stay - Earthy Colours

You’ll be happy to hear that the earthy colours we started to see later this year - 2022, are still relevant, but in a much softer way. Terracotta, rust, and burnt sienna are all still on-trend along with warmer browns and cream shades. The Cobh boucle dining chairs are perfectly representative of 2023 because they have one of the on-trend colours of the New Year as well as the texture needed to give it that organic feel.

Here To Stay - Marble

Wood isn’t the only natural material to stay in 2023, stone is also making a come-back and in particular, marble. I think most people would be lying if they said they don’t like marble. White marble, black marble, it really doesn’t matter what colour you have, it just makes a statement in every room it features in. This elegant stone is heavy too, which makes most of us feel like we’ve gotten our money’s worth. With marble, you know you will have it for a very long time and even though you might almost break your back trying to move your marble coffee table occasionally, be honest, you wouldn’t change it for the world. If a larger item of marble doesn’t float your boat though, again, you can always implement it in smaller amounts. Just look at our Astia pink marble dish above. The pink tones are characteristic of the earthy colour trends and it’s a strikingly functional piece that can group smaller accessories together.
