No. 1 Realistic

Thankfully, we no longer have to endure those plastic sunflowers from the ’90s. Honestly, If we never see one of those again, it’ll be too soon. Luckily, those dust-collecting flowers are a thing of the past, not only because they have become increasingly realistic with every passing year, but also because we are turning away from unnaturally coloured flowers and focusing on faux plants and trees. Nowadays, fake plants have gotten to the point where they could fool even the most critical eye. They look extremely life-like because they mimic the exact colours and textures of living plans without compromising the overall appearance.

No. 2 Durability

The materials used to make non-natural plants are long-lasting. So, when you invest in artificial foliage you can rest assured that it will be a prominent feature in your home for years to come. You needn’t worry about deteriorating leaves or petals either because whether it is summer or winter, fake plants and trees will remain intact. Their appearance will never change and their colour will not fade if kept away from direct sunlight.

No. 3 Low Maintenance

Let’s be honest, it takes a lot of work to maintain a garden and keep it looking its best and the same can be said for an indoor equivalent. To be quite honest, I’m still not really sure how people find the time for gardening? Real plants and flowers are like children, they require a lot of care and maintenance. Their individual needs can differ greatly from one another making them extremely temperamental and difficult to deal with. While some living plants need daily watering to survive, others can quickly become waterlogged and die with that same amount of water. It’s just so hard to know what each plant needs. With faux plants, none of this is relevant. All they require is an occasional dusting with a microfibre cloth, some warm water to remove any stubborn dust, and Windolene to bring back their shine.

No. 4 Cost-Effective

Artificial fake plants are extremely cost-effective. As mentioned already, they can last for years without any real care. They can continue to bring colour, texture, and an element of nature to a space long after its introduction. Faux trees, plants and flowers can also be repurposed or donated and continue to bring someone else joy should your eyes get tired by their appearance. They are also relatively inexpensive, their prices can range from as little as £5 and quite frankly you’d be hard-pressed to find a real bunch of flowers for such a low price and if you did you would have to ask yourself “how long will these live for?”

No. 5 Versatility

The great thing about artificial foliage is its ability to be placed in various areas around the home. Unrestricted, you could even place a fake tree in a dark corner because it doesn’t require any sunlight. They are always in season and will never outgrow their living space or plant pot. Should you get bored of looking at the same fake stems, you can simply move them into another room or even outside if they have UV-resistant capabilities.

No. 6 Lifts Your Mood

Did you know that plants and flowers (real or not) have a positive effect on people’s health and wellbeing? It’s true! Studies have shown that looking at plants, foliage and flowers can improve a person’s mood, concentration level, productivity, and morale. So, it really does pay to have them in your home. You could also try including some in the workplace alongside your energy-boosting morning cup of coffee.

Real plants also have a way of turning a once stress-free individual into a deeply-concerned person who keeps mumbling to themselves “Why does every plant I own die?” But maybe that’s just my own personal experience.

No. 7 Non-Toxic

Real plants, although beautiful, can be the source of a lot of issues for humans. For one, they can trigger allergies and may even be responsible for poisoning if they are touched or consumed by young children or pets. This can mean you are restricted even further by where you can place them in the home. Artificial alternatives are, unsurprisingly, non-toxic. Now, we still wouldn’t recommend allowing your child or pet to touch or consume them, but at least you can rest a little easier with fake foliage.

In reality, there are an unlimited number of benefits to artificial plants. We have only listed 7, but really, we could go on. Opting for artificial foliage can give your home a truly stylish and modern look. Some fake plants even come with their own stand for extended height while others can be paired with bold coloured plant pots and vases. For something a little different, try using a seagrass basket as a plant pot for that bohemian look and feel.
