Christmas is our favourite time of year, and if you're anything like us, you'll already be planning to turn your home into Santa's grotto. Of course, it's hard not to get carried away with plans for large installations, including life-sized decor, 10ft Christmas trees, and huge LED Christmas lights, but many of us have to realise that most of our elaborate plans are not feasible. Standard homes and apartments in Ireland and the UK have limited space to display seasonal decor. Unfortunately, this means reevaluating what we can and can't bring into our homes, but thankfully it doesn't mean forgetting the idea entirely. EZ Living Furniture created this blog, designed to help those of you with smaller homes make smarter decor decisions. Using the advice below, you can display all the beautiful Christmas ornaments you want, without overwhelming your home. So, are you ready to get into the holiday spirit with some

Choose An Appropriate Christmas Tree

One thing most of us won't compromise on is a Christmas Tree. It's an absolute must during the holiday season, but for those of us living in small apartments and homes, it can seem like an addition most of us would assume we would have to live without, or at least it was until now. Just because you live small doesn't mean you have to think small. Of course, you need to reevaluate the size of the tree you plan to bring in, but that doesn't mean going without one entirely. You can always make room for a tree. Christmas trees come in a variety of different sizes and shapes. From tabletop trees to larger slim versions, there's a tree out there for every home, and you don't have to look far to find them, with lots to choose from at EZ Living Furniture.

No Mantelpiece - No Problem

Christmas time is typically the only time of year when a fireplace seems like a necessity in the home. Whether it's for heating a cold room or as an access point for Santa, many of us feel lost without one. Another advantage of a fireplace is the mantelpiece sitting above it, which can be used to decorate for the holiday seasons, particularly Christmas. However, being without one shouldn't ruin another opportunity to use beautiful Xmas decor in our homes. Instead of a mantelpiece, we suggest using a narrow table such as a console table (which can be used year-round for other tasks too) to display your Christmas figurines. Another great option is a radiator cover; many of these are designed with flat surfaces on the top, which would also allow for an ornament or two, or a luscious pine needle garland. But what about stockings? Don't worry, you can hang those from your console table or radiator cover too, so Saint Nick can fill them with treats!

Think Big With Decor

You might think smaller decorations are the smarter choice in a tiny home, but did you know that larger ornaments can actually have a much better impact? It's true! Smaller ornaments, mini baubles, and tiny figurines can actually shrink your space, making it appear visually smaller than it is. Instead, we suggest using large, full-sized decorations to create a real impact in your home. A few plush snowmen, reindeer, or elves could be just what your home is missing to create a welcoming feel for guests. If you're worried about these items taking up too much floor space, opt for a standing figurine that can be placed on a nearby table instead.

Consider Windows & Walls

When decorating a small home, it's often floor space that is heavily impacted. Many larger ornaments, figurines, and decor will be positioned permanently on the floor or be placed on a table on the floor. Either way, the floor and

When you’re decorating a small home, it’s often the floor space that we focus on rather than the walls and windows. In doing so, we're not really using all of the space available to us. There are so many opportunities for decorating in these areas. Windows can be decorated with stickers/decals, and there are lots of designs to choose from at this time of year. They are inexpensive, easy and quick to apply and remove, and are great at creating an indoor winter wonderland. Better still, they don't consume any floor or surface space, and they create a real impact. They can also be applied to mirrors and can be reused year after year!

Another great alternative is shelving, freestanding or wall-mounted. Shelves are great for displaying smaller accessories, and if you opt for wall shelving, you won't impact floor space. In the lead-up to Christmas, you can use your shelves to display lanterns and figurines. To finish the entire look, you can hang Xmas lights from them too!

Swap Out Your Throws & Cushions

A simple and inexpensive way to reflect the holiday season in your home is to use Christmas-themed throws and cushions. A snowflake-embossed blanket and/or knitted cushion with a star design could be just what your home needs to complete your Christmas look. Of course, if you're reluctant to invest in Xmas-specific throws and blankets, opt for throws and cushions in Xmas colours like red and green, which can be used year-round. Tartan is a traditional pattern long since associated with Christmas, and introducing a few tartan cushions and a throw could also make all the difference to your little home this Xmas. If you're struggling to find tartan, look for houndstooth, which is similar in its design, or choose something like faux fur.

Use Mirrors & Small Tables To Your Advantage

Wreaths and garlands are non-negotiables during the holiday season....there, we said it. Every home should have at least one, but of course, not every home can easily accommodate them. This is where creativity comes in. Christmas wreaths aren't just for doors or bannisters, which is good news, because a studio apartment is severely lacking both of those. However, when placed on a dining table or coffee table, a wreath and garland can also act as a beautiful centrepiece. To complete the look, add a few LED candles to the centre of the wreath or around the garland draped across the table.

If you don't have a fireplace or console table for your garland, we have another festive alternative for you! Simply drape your beautiful pine needle garland from any hanging mirror using Command Hooks. Doing so will allow you to create a unique and beautiful feature in your tiny home during the holiday season.
