Christmas dinner is a regular affair come December and one of the few occasions where we all sit down together as a family unit. Whether you’re entertaining family or friends, one thing is for sure, a decorated table is essential when hosting a festive feast. It’s a task sometimes forgotten because usually, the only thing on our minds is getting the meal out in a timely fashion and not burning the house down, which is a huge challenge in itself, we know!

But even before you start worrying about the smell of burnt turkey in the air, you should focus on your table arrangement. Why? Because how your dining table looks at Christmas is just as vital as the food that is being served. A dazzling centrepiece will not only impress your guests but will also give them a taste of your creative skills. And if you need further convincing, it can be used as a conversation starter, thus avoiding the long awkward silences with your uncle that you have only met once before, you’re welcome.

To help to inspire you for Christmas 2023, EZ Living Furniture turned to our in-house interior designer and social media executive Ola Jordan for some expert advice on three ways to dress a dining room table for the holidays. So let's get walking in a……

Blue and silver Christmas table setting.

Winter Wonderland

First up is a winter wonderland theme, Ola’s personal favourite because of its minimalistic and clean appearance. Using a white, silver, and blue colour scheme, she creates a timeless focal point on the EZ Living Furniture Sonoma Extendable Dining Table. “I placed two white runners down the centre of the dining table” A scrunched effect with the white table runners will further enhance this elegant but effortless look.

Do you know what they say? When in doubt, add glitter and our expert rids us of any concerns with lots of it. She opts for silver placemats to accompany white napkins which are held in snowflake napkin rings.

Ola has the perfect solution for anyone who has any extra baubles not being used on a Christmas tree. “For the table then, I just placed present boxes inside the bowl settings for a bit of bling and six blue baubles inside of our Hurricane Christmas Candle Holder for a stunning centrepiece.”

For her next trick, you’ll need a Christmas garland and some silver sprays. This will help to liven up the centre of the Christmas dinner table. Don't forget to also include a cute deer candle holder. The one featured (above) fits in perfectly with Ola's theme and boasts a silver finish. Better still, it is encrusted with beautiful rhinestones.

“It doesn’t have to cost a fortune and it’s not perfect but it looks amazing”.

Red Christmas table setting.

Traditional Christmas

A classic red and green theme accentuated with candles is sure to catch the eye of even your most discerning family members. By including a tartan napkin, Ola instantly transports us to a cosy cabin in the woods. Rudolph also makes an appearance and features on the highland napkin rings (shown above).

For the outdoor and rustic feel, greenery is added. “For our centrepiece, I used one of our lush leaf and pine cone garlands and then I just used some red poinsettias, and pine cone picks to help intensify the red, cabin theme.” In the middle of the table, Ola displays tapered candles that sit neatly on top of the Remini candle holders.

EZ TIP: Try to leave candles unlit if leaving them unattended or if you're missing that warm glow, we suggest buying battery-operated candles.

Pink Christmas table setting.

Modern Christmas

For a very ‘modern’ Christmas, Ola’s final table really spices things up. Gold and raspberry pink baubles compliment the Renvyle Dining Table but don’t overpower it. “Don’t be afraid to use a garland or wreath on your table.” Here, she uses the Pink Pearl Garland in the centre of the table.

Our expert then adds pink baubles to the bowls which sit neatly on top of the plates. “Baubles are cost-effective and they look like a million dollars”.

The candles have been lit! With less greenery on this table, the EZ Living art deco candle holders allow for this much safer Christmas set-up. “What I did then was, I used our little thin pink and gold sprays and just wrapped them in around it, again looks amazing and it literally only is a few sprays”.

And to help take the pressure off by setting your table on Christmas Day, Ola has a solution. “There’s no harm in having it set up a couple of days prior because you’ll probably be cooking on Christmas Day”.

And it really is that simple, by following Ola’s expert and budget-friendly advice, you too can wow your guests with inventiveness and avoid running around like a headless chicken.
