2024 is just around the corner, so unsurprisingly it’s got us thinking about the home decor trends to expect in the New Year, particularly the bedroom. Bedrooms are used nightly, but because we see them as more of a functional space, it’s easy to forget that they need updating too! Whether you’re shopping for new pieces or planning to rearrange existing bedroom furniture, this blog is for you. EZ Living Furniture is highlighting 6 exciting trends that will be big in sleep spaces for 2024.
1. Serene Space
For the last number of years, the bedroom has captured a serene and quiet look, and it doesn’t look like this is set to change next year either. Continue to stay clear of loud colours and large-scale, bulky bed frames that consume a lot of floor space. Slimline items in calming pastel hues are ultimately the way to go for beds, bedside lockers, wardrobes, and chests of drawers.
2. High-Quality Linens
When it comes to bed linen, it’s best to prioritise white-coloured, high-quality duvet covers, bed sheets, and pillowcases. Alternatively, you could opt for a calming, neutral hue which is still in keeping with the New Year trends. Muted earthy tones such as blush, tan and terracotta shades are all good options. We suggest sticking with white though if you are someone who likes to regularly change your bedroom colour scheme. White pairs well with almost everything which means you won’t have to think about swapping out your bed covers to match any new bedroom decor. All you need to do is add some soft furnishings to complete the look. Think curtains, throws, and decorative cushions in your new shade.
3. Mix & Match
Next year is all about mixing the old with the new. Contemporary styles paired with vintage pieces are what you can expect to see a lot more of in 2024. Every room in your home should tell a story, particularly the bedroom. The best way to do this is to incorporate pieces that have history, some meaning, and lots of character. One-of-a-kind items from your local thrift shop could work or items that are brand-new but boast a vintage style like our Allyson bedside locker pictured above.
4. Geometric Patterns
Geometric patterns are making a comeback in a big way. For some time, they have been steadily incorporating themselves into other areas of the home and now it seems, the bedroom is its newest target. Hanging a piece of wall art that features this design above the bed is the easiest and most cost-effective way to include it. Other soft furnishings like throws and cushions would also work too! If you have a passion for DIY, you might also consider geometric wallpaper or stencils, moulding, or panelling, as a way to add interest and depth to the space. This step is all about including one standout pattern as a way to tie the whole room together.
5. Softer Lighting
Softer lighting has always been encouraged in the bedroom. After all, a yellow hue is known to help with sleep while a bright, white light will keep you alert and is best for office spaces. When it comes to lighting your bedroom, look for table lamps for your bedside lockers and ceiling lights that you can use your yellow-shaded lightbulb in and try to stick with neutral-coloured shades for best results. Lighting plays a very big role in bedroom decor for 2024, so make a point of prioritising it when decorating your space.
6. Monochromatic Moments
This is a trend we didn’t see appearing on our list for 2024. Monochrome or monochromatic is a colour palette that is comprised of one colour. While we might automatically think of grey-scale, this isn’t necessarily the case. What we’re expecting to see in the New Year is a neutral-monochromatic scheme in the bedroom. Just remember, it’s all about creating that calming and serene environment in your bedroom space to foster a connection to the natural world for next year. Refer to biophilic design if you’re struggling with the concept. Really the key to pulling off this look is to use lots of different textures and materials, which adds dimension to the space and will keep it from falling flat.
